My Name Is Red is a historical murder mystery novel by Nobel Prize winner Orhan Pamuk, set in 16th-century Istanbul. The book centers on a group of miniature artists commissioned by the Sultan for a secret project to create a book in the European, or “Frankish,” style. When one of the artists is murdered, the novel follows the investigation and reveals the tensions between traditional Ottoman art and the influence of Western individualism.
